A King Like No Other — Page 2
This is a King whose reign will never end.
Matthew, Mark and John tell us that Jesus riding on the donkey is a fulfillment of Zechariah 9. John tells us that the disciples were not aware of this until Jesus was glorified—perhaps He told them on the road to Emmaus. But if they had looked at Zechariah, they would have seen that in chapters 9-11, their Messiah would be rejected. But as they continued and read chapters 12-14, they would have read that this rejected King would be later enthroned—that He would return to the Mount of Olives with great authority at a later date. This time, however, Jesus would come on a donkey which symbolized peace.
Let’s look at Revelation 19:11-12, “And I saw the heaven opened, and behold, a white horse,”—at that time He will be coming on a victory war horse—“and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems.” He will be the ruler of all, with crowns from every nation. He will unify the nations and peoples of this world.
Turn with me to Revelation 7. I want you to see this with your eyes. 7:9-11, “After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues standing before the throne and before the lamb”—this king is going to bring the peoples and the nations together. There will be Africans, and Asians, Europeans, South Americans, North Americans.
All good rulers of the earth have sought for resolutions to the conflicts of the world. This King will bring resolution and reconciliation to all racism and division.—they will be “clothed in white robes”—notice the garments of those who have cast their coats on the road to honor the King? They are replaced with pure, white robes. And notice what is in their hands, “and palm branches were in their hands; and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.”
This King brings the nations together, and brings lasting peace. This King is the King of kings, and the Lord of lords and His kingdom will have no end.
Who is this King who passed up the kingdom of this world, and humbled Himself, even to the point of death? It is He, according to Philippians 2, whom God the Father bestowed “the name that is above every name. So that at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow” angels in heaven and all on earth, “and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.”
This King is a King like no other
Let every kindred, every tribe
On this terrestrial ball
To Him all majesty ascribe
And crown Him Lord of all
O that, with yonder sacred throng,
We at His feet may fall,
We’ll join the everlasting song,
And crown Him Lord of all,
We’ll join the everlasting song,
And crown Him Lord of all
